Woods
End Norfolk
Beside
a meandering stream in a lovely wooded setting, Woods
End is a stunning contemporary country residence and
possibly one of the most exciting new homes to have
been created in recent years.
Set in approximately two acres (tbv) of landscaped, wooded
grounds, the house has been designed by award winning
architects Roderick James to be in close harmony with
the surrounding landscape, environmental concerns being
a major consideration.
Traditional building techniques have been employed using
contemporary methods resulting in a marvelous fusion
of style, tradition and aesthetics. Architecturally,
part of the brief was to take full advantage of the
marvelous Norfolk light and ensure the accommodation
became a light filled, welcoming space. Therefore the
notion of curved roof lines, organic materials and open
plan living were conceived and married together with
twenty first century requirements to form a property
capable of adopting many personalities in order to reflect
the lifestyle of those who live within this space.
Majestic Douglas Firs grown and supplied from a sustainable
UK source at Longleat, have been crafted to form the
frame, whilst the whole building has been wrapped in
Redwood Cedar with dipped hardwood window frames from
Sweden, carefully positioned and sized to maximise views
of the garden and beyond.
Ingeniously these have all been brought together under
gently curving roofs topped with flowering sedum, providing
a delightful display of white and pink flowers during
the summer. This traditional way of construction has
been combined with modern day technology which allows
for discreet yet thoroughly efficient thermal and sound
insulation together with windows which cut out harmful
ultra violet rays whilst ensuring against heat loss.
The house has been designed to 'breathe'
